Father of slain Waxhaw college student speaks out after deadly Columbia home break-in

WAXHAW, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Police say 22-year-old Logan Federico of Waxhaw was an innocent victim, who was gunned down in South Carolina after a night out with friends.

The suspect in her murder, Alexander Dickey, was denied bond and remains in jail in Lexington County, South Carolina.

Federico’s father, Stephen Federico, says his daughter was working hard in school and wanted to become a teacher.

“I am Logan Haley Federico’s father, better known as dad or her hero. Unfortunately, that day, I could not be her hero,” said Stephen Federico at a news conference Monday in Columbia, South Carolina.

Logan Federico was killed during a home invasion in Columbia early Saturday morning.

Her father had strong words for Alexander Dickey, a convicted felon, accused of killing Logan.

“The message I want to send to what’s his name? To Dickey, who took my daughter’s life, this is from her, you can’t kill my spirit, you can kill my body, physically, but you can’t kill my love that my friends and family shared with me,” said Stephen Federico during the news conference.

Father of Logan Federico speaks at press conference following his daughter's death.

Federico, a South Piedmont Community College student in Monroe, was visiting friends in Columbia over the weekend when police say Dickey broke into two homes, shot Federico in the chest, and stole credit cards, a gun and a car.

“The suspect drives away in the stolen vehicle and heads towards West Columbia and goes on what can best be described as a shopping spree,” said Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook.

When the car broke down, police say Dickey called a tow truck to have the stolen car taken to a friend’s house and then ran away from law enforcement when they closed in on him sparking a manhunt, that police say ended with him setting fire to a house and having to be pulled out by law enforcement.

“He’s a true convict and deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life,” said Holbrook.
