AMAZON’S CEO has spoken out about the tariff impact on American consumers, and it’s out of step with some retailers.
Concerns about increased import taxation resulting in high costs on a variety of merchandise have been ongoing for months.
While there’s currently a 90-day pause on the global reciprocal tariffs announced by President Donald Trump last month for most countries, China still faces rates of up to 145%.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that the e-commerce giant hasn’t seen a significant impact on prices yet, per a Thursday earnings call.
Jassy added that there have been trends of stocking up on essential items out of preparation due to the uncertain economic environment, more than anything.
He also emphasized that the company remains focused on keeping prices low and that tariffs could allow for “diversification” in product selection.
