DENVER (KDVR) — FBI Denver special agents arrested a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army on Wednesday night on charges related to cocaine distribution.
Juan Gabriel Orona-Rodriguez, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, faces federal charges. On Thursday morning, FBI Denver posted on X about the arrest, saying it was "related to distributing cocaine."
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Rocky Mountain Field Division, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and officials at Fort Carson helped with the investigation and the arrest.
FOX31 asked FBI Denver if this was related to the Colorado Springs nightclub operation that arrested over 100 people.
"Since this is an open case in federal court, additional information will be released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office or the court at the appropriate time," a spokesperson for FBI Denver said.
FOX31 also reached out to DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division. A spokesperson said the FBI is leading an ongoing investigation and more information can't be provided at this time. The spokesperson said it's currently conducting a joint investigation with the FBI and the Army Criminal Investigation Division.
Many details about the investigation, including the base Orona-Rodriguez belonged to and where the arrest took place, haven't been released.
FOX31 reached out to the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and Fort Carson for a statement and is awaiting a response.
