(KRON) -- A dead bear was found lying on a Sonoma County road early Tuesday morning, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call at 6:30 a.m. that a 430-pound male black bear was located.
The bear was found just east of Forestville on Trenton Road and River Road. CDFW said it appears the animal was struck by a car. At this time, CHP has not discovered vehicles with damage in connection with the incident.
A bear sighting in that area is a fairly uncommon sighting, according to CDFW.
Locals on the Nextdoor app commented about the bear sighting. A resident from Windsor posted a photo of the dead bear lying on the Sonoma County road. A Santa Rosa resident says she drove by the bear that morning and "was shocked" by the sighting.
A necropsy will be performed to determine the bear's official cause of death.
