OAKLEY — A pedestrian who police said was in the middle of a roadway died Sunday night after being hit by a car, authorities said.

Authorities pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. They have not released the person’s identify publicly.
The driver stayed at the scene, gave police a statement and provided blood to determine if alcohol or drugs were in the system. Police did not make an arrest.
Navarro said several witnesses informed officers that the pedestrian was in the middle of the road in complete darkness when the collision happened. Police believe the pedestrian was unhoused and living near the area when the crash happened.
