(KRON) -- The Pinole Police Department confirmed to KRON4 that it is probing the video of a woman's racist rant during an encounter that has gone viral online.

Police said the two individuals were separated and the incident was determined to be "verbal in nature." "Due to the nature of the verbal exchange between the parties, the incident has been classified as a hate incident, not a hate crime," police added.
