AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on Wednesday said it would safely detonate explosive material found at a south Austin home in the 2400 block of Vintage Stave Road.
APD said on Tuesday, just after 3 p.m., it responded to a call about a possible explosive device being found in the area. After further investigation, APD and ATF determined that the only way to detonate the explosive material safely was on-site.
Officials said they expect the detonations to occur within the next hour and a half to two hours. Residents in the area have already been evacuated, according to a press release.
APD has asked the public to avoid the Frate Barker area between Menchaca Road and Brodie Lane.
One person has been detained, according to APD.
