The Orange County Buddhist Church hosted a community celebration of Japanese culture and the birth of the historical Buddha this weekend with its annual Hanamatsuri Festival.
Throughout the weekend there were martial arts demonstrations, cultural performances and OCBC’s own Daion and Seishun Taiko drum groups performed.
Visitors were able to tour the church’s main hall, or Hondo, and cultural displays of rare Japanese artifacts. They were also invited to pour sweet tea on a statue of the infant Buddha, a tradition in celebration of Buddha’s birthday when it is said sweat tea rained from the sky.
The more than 50-year-old church is located on Dale Street in Anaheim.
