NEW York Jets quarterback Justin Fields shared a strong message over speculations that the team could pick a player at his position in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract, including $30 million guaranteed, as a free agent last month.
Fields appears to be the Jets’ starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season after the team cut Aaron Rodgers following two disappointing campaigns.
But the 26-year-old has had an inconsistent four years in the league, with the latest seeing him lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 4-2 record before losing his starting role to Russell Wilson.
The 2025 NFL Draft takes place later this month, and there’s been talk about the Jets possibly selecting a quarterback, either with their No. 7 overall pick or in the later rounds.
The topic came up during Fields’ press conference at the Jets’ team facility on Wednesday.
The 2021 first-round pick revealed that he’s not concerned about answering questions about things that might happen.
“I don’t really like to answer rhetorical questions,” Fields said, per SNY.
“I’m willing to teach, but I’m not really interested in rhetorical questions.”
Fields also shared that he’s ready to showcase his skills as he’ll play for his third NFL team.
“Definitely something that I want to prove to myself,” he said.
“And I think my expectations for myself are higher than anybody else’s, to be honest with you.
“… And again I think I’ve been improving each year I’ve been in the league. So I look to do the same this year, to be honest with you.
“But I think my expectations for myself are higher than you guys is higher than all other people in this building. So I’m excited to get to work and get things going.”
Fields reported for the first day of offseason workouts on Monday.
He made his first trip to 1 Jets Drive and trained with his new teammates.
The Jets were among six other teams that got head starts on their spring workouts due to employing a new head coach (Aaron Glenn).
Last season, Fields threw five touchdowns and rushed for another five scores while posting a career-high 66 percent completion rate after three subpar seasons with the Chicago Bears.
“I think I’m progressing and getting better each and every year, and I’m excited to get things rolling this year,” he said.
The dynamic quarterback Fields has passed for 7,780 yards and 45 touchdowns in 50 games and has rushed for 2,509 yards and 19 rushing scores in four seasons.
