Stantec and Ryan Hanley have worked as part of a joint venture (JV) since 2020, currently sharing an office space in Dublin’s city centre that was opened in 2024 by Ireland’s former prime minister Simon Harris.
The JV has previously landed roles with Ireland’s water company, Uisce Éireann. Stantec hopes the acquisition will increase its client base with local authorities, government departments, private clients and utility companies.
The company notes Ryan Hanley’s expertise in sectors including water, wastewater, flood risk management, structural engineering, and environmental planning.
Gord Johnston, Stantec’s president, said: “Through deep and meaningful collaboration, Ryan Hanley and Stantec have proven our ability to deliver outstanding results for clients and communities in Ireland.”
Ger Gibney, Ryan Hanley’s managing director, said: “Over the last 90 years, we have grown to become a values-driven business, founded on passion and integrity as well as doing what is right for communities and the environment.“This will not change as Ryan Hanley becomes part of Stantec, a firm that has shown itself to be a hugely valuable partner with an ethos similar to our own. We are all excited for what feels like a natural stage in our evolution.”
Founded in 1931, Ryan Hanley employs 150 staff and has offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Castlebar.
Stantec did not disclose a sum when announcing the acquisition.
In 2024, Stantec bought UK-headquartered engineering rival Hydrock and in 2021, acquired Australia’s GTA Consultants, a transportation planning and engineering company.
