JERRY Jones and the Dallas Cowboys seemingly already have issues concerning new quarterback addition Joe Milton.
There has been a reported explanation as to why the New England Patriots sent the backup quarterback Milton to Dallas last week.
The Patriots’ move to trade Milton to the Cowboys for just a fifth-round draft pick was because new head coach Mike Vrabel decided to trade a player who he felt could challenge Drake Maye for the starting role and wanted a new destination if he couldn’t, per Masslive.com.
Vrabel is confident in the 2024 No. 3 overall pick Maye as the QB1 and chose to trade Milton before the team’s first day of offseason programs on Monday.
“Milton, who at 25 is three years older than the Patriots starter, made it clear behind the scenes he no longer wanted to be sitting behind Maye,” the outlet reported over the weekend.
“For Vrabel, who is trying to establish a culture, and trying to set the tone for what’s to come, that attidue didn’t fly.”
Milton “fancied himself a starter,” per the report, which could spell trouble for the Cowboys, who firmly believe in Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback.
Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million contract with the Cowboys last September.
The three-time Pro Bowler is set to earn $60 million a year.
Luckily for the Cowboys, Milton is reportedly “happy” to be with the Cowboys, as his mother is a longtime fan of America’s Team, and playing for the franchise is a “dream” for the 25-year-old, per Masslive.com.
Milton entered the NFL in 2024 as a sixth-round pick.
He completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 touchdowns and one touchdown in his lone regular-season game in Week 18.
Milton also recorded 10 rushing attempts for 16 yards, including a forced fumble and a touchdown.
It was an upset win that cost the Patriots the No. 1 overall pick.
The addition of Milton could be a message sent to Prescott, who suffered a season-ending right ankle injury in 2024.
Prescott has also missed 26 games due to injuries over the last three campaigns.
The Cowboys want returns from Prescott, who threw a career-high 36 passing touchdowns in 2023.
Milton will join a quarterback room that also consists of journeyman Will Grier.
Dallas missed the playoffs in 2024 with a 7-10 record.
They will look to bounce back under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
