DENVER (KDVR) -- Two victims in a Saturday afternoon shooting outside a Fort Collins mall have died, and police have arrested a juvenile suspect, Fort Collins Police Services announced Sunday morning.
The shooting happened on a sidewalk outside the Foothills Mall in the 200 block of East Foothills Parkway at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Police identified two victims who were taken to a local hospital, where they later died, Police Services said in a Sunday morning press release.
Police said the coroner's office will release the victims' identities.
Mall and adjoining movie theater were suspended, and officers made their way through the mall assessing security. The scene stayed closed until about midnight for investigators to collect evidence.
Investigators later identified a juvenile male suspect and arrested him. He will not be identified due to his age, police said.
“Detectives worked through the night on this case and were able to make an arrest,” Assistant Chief Frank Barrett, who oversees the FCPS Criminal Investigations Division, said in the press release. “Though events like this are rare in Fort Collins, our officers maintain a high standard of training to ensure they are prepared to keep our city safe, no matter the rarity. There is still much work to be done as we continue working on this case. Thank you to all our partner agencies who responded to assist with scene safety.”
