Kentucky may have lost out to Michigan for former UAB big man Yaxel Lendenborg, but Mark Pope and his staff added a key piece to its 2025-26 roster on Saturday.
Point guard Jaland Lowe, formerly at Pitt, has committed to the Wildcats, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Lowe, originally from Missouri City, Texas, was rated the No. 15 point guard in the country when he signed with Pitt out of the class of 2023. As a freshman, he averaged 9.6 points and 3.3 assists per game, starting in 19 of his 31 appearances.
In 2024-25, he started in all but one of the Panthers’ games, posting 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists an outing. For his efforts, he was named third-team all-conference by the ACC.
He opted to enter the transfer portal in search of new opportunities. Now, he’ll play in the SEC, and for a Kentucky team that made the Sweet 16 in Pope’s first year at the helm.
With Lamont Butler’s college career in the books, the Cats needed to bring on a point guard that could help the program reach the next level. They may have found it in Lowe.
