A Stylish, Feature-Rich Keyboard for Gamers and Beyond

buy from amazon

Redragon is a well-known manufacturer of gaming accessories, producing a range of products that include gaming keyboards, monitors, headsets, speakers, and more. At Mac Sources, we have used many of their keyboards, which are primarily designed with gaming in mind but can also serve well for work. The Redragon Eclipse Pro stands as Redragon’s top-tier keyboard. Constructed from CNC aluminum, it features RGB lighting on the sides and underneath each key.

The keyboard boasts three color options: pink keys, gray keys, and black keys. Additionally, it has a small LCD screen that can display the time or a GIF set up by Redragon. Users can adjust various settings, such as color effects, speed, brightness, and language, using the control knob and the screen. The keyboard supports multiple connectivity options: Bluetooth, hardwired USB-C, and a 2.4GHz dongle.

    Unboxing and First Impressions

The keyboard arrives in a compact box, securely protected inside a small plastic bag. Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the high quality of the product—it weighs in at a solid 3 lbs 10 oz, thanks to its metal construction. This weight, combined with the premium feel of the aluminum, truly conveys a sense of quality. Inside the box, you’ll find a Redragon-branded USB-A to USB-C cable, a keycap puller, a small booklet, and some extra key switches. I was surprised to find that there are no adjustable feet on the keyboard. It would be great to see a magnetic option for elevating the keyboard, especially given its aluminum build.

When I first typed on the keyboard, I noticed the key switches felt different from the UCAL model I reviewed previously, but this keyboard still delivers Redragon’s signature satisfying click. The tapping sound is very enjoyable.

    General Usage

I generally start using keyboards at work to get a good sense of their performance. I tend to be quite particular about keyboards. While the absence of a dedicated number pad does limit its functionality for work, that’s not the primary focus here; gaming is where this keyboard truly excels. It even has a dedicated gaming mode where the arrow keys and gaming controls light up red for easy visibility—provided the room isn’t too bright.

The dedicated screen displaying the time, battery life, volume, and other settings is a fantastic feature that I appreciate. As far as battery life Redragon doesn’t quote a specific time but I was able to get almost a week without needing to recharge. However, my keyboard’s clock is incorrect, showing a time that is three hours behind the actual time. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a way to correct this within the keyboard’s software or UI. Despite reviewing the manual and searching online, I found others experiencing the same issue without a resolution.

On a positive note, the USB dongle for my last Redragon keyboard wouldn’t stay in place, but I’m happy to report that this model has incorporated a magnet to securely hold the dongle in place.

Regarding visibility in low-light conditions, the RGB lights on my previous review model were bright and easy to see. Unfortunately, the Eclipse Pro’s lights are quite dim, even when set to maximum brightness. I wish they matched the vibrancy of Redragon’s other offerings.

I want to touch on the software Redragon offers with their keyboards. Most of their software is the same including this one. You can customize a lot of things about the keyboard including custom RGB pattern and a key layout. Upon downloading the software, it instantly paired. I was surprised at how easy it is to set up within the software.

    Price

The keyboard retails for $99.99 directly on Redragon’s website. It’s available on Amazon for $89.99 at the time of publishing.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the Redragon Eclipse Pro is a fantastic gaming keyboard that combines premium construction with a host of user-friendly features. Its CNC aluminum frame and thoughtful design elements, such as the dedicated control knob and customizable RGB lighting, make it a standout option for gamers seeking both aesthetics and performance. While the absence of adjustable feet and the dim RGB lighting may be drawbacks for some users, the keyboard excels in its tri-mode connectivity and satisfying typing experience.

The inclusion of a small LCD screen for time and settings adds a touch of modernity, although the incorrect clock display is a notable oversight. Priced at $99.99, the Eclipse Pro offers solid value for those looking to enhance their gaming setup or streamline their work environment with a reliable and stylish keyboard. Overall, despite some minor quirks, the Redragon Eclipse Pro is a noteworthy addition to the gaming accessory market, appealing to both dedicated gamers and casual users alike.
