Cleveland Browns owner sends 5-word message to $230 million Deshaun Watson which shows true feelings towards quarterback

THE Cleveland Browns have finally made their true feelings as a franchise towards Deshaun Watson clear.

And it’s come from the very top with a statement from owner Jimmy Haslam.

Watson is on a fully guaranteed $230 million contract with the Browns.

The team acquired him from the Houston Texans in a March 2022 trade.

They sent three first-round picks, a third rounder and two fourth rounders in return.

Watson was facing 22 lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct around the time of the trade.

As of last October, he settled 23 of the 24 lawsuits filed against him in 2022.

He was suspended for 11 games and fined $5 million by the league for violating their personal conduct policy.

Watson has also been plagued by injury problems which means he’s yet to play a full season for the Browns.

And owner Haslam admitted the trade for him was “a big swing and miss.”

The Browns were 1-6 and last in the NFL with Watson at quarterback in 2024.

He underwent Achilles surgery in October which forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Watson suffered a re-rupture to his right Achilles tendon and needed another surgery in January.

But there’s a possibility he misses the 2025 season as a result.

Haslem admitted, “We took a big swing and miss with Deshaun.

“We thought we had the quarterback.

“We didn’t and we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him.

‘So we’ve got to dig ourselves out of that hole.

“The trade was an entire organization decision and it ends with Dee (wife and co-owner) and I, so hold us accountable.”

Cleveland’s last playoff win came in 2020 in the wild card round against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

They made the playoffs in 2023, led by Joe Flacco’s charge at quarterback.

The Browns had an 11-6 record before losing 45-14 to the Houston Texans in the wild card round.

Last year they finished 3-14 and hold the No. 2 overall pick in this month’s NFL Draft.
