(KRON) – For the first time in 57 years, Bay Area Athletics fans will not be able to drive to the ballpark to watch the A's play at the Oakland Coliseum. However, fans can drive 68 miles north on Interstate 80 for the A’s new home: Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
Despite lifelong fans pledging with A’s owner John Fisher to sell the team and stay in Oakland, even wearing “sell the team” shirts to games, the A’s are ultimately set to relocate to Las Vegas. However, for the next three seasons, the team’s home base will be in Sacramento.
The A’s are set to play their first home game opener in Sacramento on Monday against the Chicago Cubs. The entire three-game series will take place at the Sutter Health Park.
The team posted on its X account the new logo with Sacramento’s Tower Bridge, which was captioned “In our Sacramento Era.”
The A’s organization is taking the opportunity to honor a beloved A’s player Rickey Henderson at the home opener. Henderson passed away last December.
