Three men linked a chain between an ATM machine and a pickup truck during a convenience store robbery in Chula Vista that included an attack on a clerk, police said.
The robbery occurred at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a 7-Eleven in the 4300 block of Main Street, according to Chula Vista police.
The suspects entered the store with the chain while a white Ford pickup was parked outside. They attached chains to the machine and dragged the ATM with the pickup.
A physical altercation involving a store clerk also occurred, but no injuries were reported, officials said.
Police offered no other information about the suspects, but OnScene.TV reported that they were black males wearing ski masks and that they broke the ATM in the attempt to steal it, but ended up emptying it of cash.
The truck, which was stolen, in which they fled north was found abandoned on Interstate 805 between Main and Orange Avenue, according to OnScene.
Authorities urged anyone with information related to the robbery to call police or Crime Stoppers at 619-235-8477.
