South Carolina is gearing up for a crucial offseason under head coach Lamont Paris. However, a key piece of the lineup and a veteran performer is reportedly heading to the portal.
According to Jamie Shaw with On3 Sports, junior forward Zachary Davis is heading to the portal. He appeared in all 32 games for the Gamecocks with 19 starts this past season and has started 36 games across the past 2 seasons.

Davis was the 4th-leading scorer for South Carolina this season at 8.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals but shot just 38.2% from the floor. As a junior, Davis improved his scoring but saw his efficiency go down after shooting 43.2% from the field a season ago.
Losing players to the transfer portal is as common as wins and losses these days, but it will be interesting to see how Paris and his staff adjust for the 2025-26 season. The Gamecocks saw a major resurgence with an NCAA Tournament bid a season ago for the program’s first since 2017, but the stay was shortlived.
Now, it’s up to Paris to show the 26-8 overall record last season was not just a flash in the pan, especially in the ultra-elite SEC. The team finished just 12-20 this past season with a 2-16 record in league play and last-place finish.
