DENVER (KDVR) — Thousands of people in Jefferson County are without power Monday morning after several outages were reported south and east of the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
According to the Xcel Energy outage map, there are over 11,500 customers without power in Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, Superior and Wheat Ridge.
Xcel said these seven outages occurred just before 5 a.m., and the power is expected to be restored in all areas by 6:30 a.m., although as of 7:18 a.m., the power is still out in the area.
FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inboxHowever, the power was restored to over 7,000 customers in the Arvada, Aurora and Golden areas near Highway 72, just south of the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. Xcel reported three outages in the area just before 5 a.m. and the power was restored just after 7 a.m.

NWS said there were peak gusts of 82 mph recorded at the junction of Highway 93 and 72 at the base of Coal Creek Canyon. FOX31 is still working to confirm the cause of these outages with Xcel.
