Starting Wednesday, March 26, Reyes Construction, Inc. crews will begin replacing 154 of the 1,500 deck planks on the Imperial Beach Pier as part of the Port of San Diego’s ongoing maintenance project.

The work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with efforts to keep the pier open to the public. However, for safety reasons, pedestrian traffic will be rerouted around the active work zone and may be briefly stopped at times.

The deck repairs are expected to wrap up in April, but additional upgrades are planned. Future improvements include electric utility upgrades, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

This maintenance effort is part of a larger $2.6 million project aimed at preserving the structural integrity of the beloved pier. Since the project began in November 2024, crews have replaced two pilings and installed a new water line in early March.

The full project is set for completion by summer 2025, ensuring the pier remains a safe and welcoming destination for visitors and the community.
