Charges have been filed in connection with the death of Adan Manzano, a Kansas City-based reporter who was found dead in his New Orleans-area hotel room last month.
Manzano was staying in nearby Kenner, Louisiana, while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl for Telemundo. According to the Associated Press, a woman named Danette Colbert, 48, has been arrested on second-degree murder charges. Colbert was previously detained on charges of stealing Manzano’s cell phone and bank cards.
Per the AP, Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley also told reporters Tuesday that a suspected accomplice has also been arrested in connection with this case.
Here are comments made by a Jefferson Parish coroner regarding Manzano’s cause of death, via the Associated Press:
Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, the Jefferson Parish coroner, told reporters that the autopsy found Manzano died from “positional asphyxia” as he was lying facedown on a pillow and unable to breathe after ingesting a combination of alcohol and the depressant Xanax.
“Both of them are central nervous system depressants, and when you add them up they’re really bad,” the coroner said, adding: “One of the dangers is you end up in a position where you are obstructing your ability to breathe.
Manzano was 27 years old.
