Mrs. Maude Christian Mofield, age 88 of the Hogans Creek Community was called home to be with her heavenly Father with her family at her bedside at 9:23 a.m. Sunday morning March 16, 2025 under the care of Gentiva Hospice of Lebanon at the Lebanon Health and Rehabilitation Center at Castle Heights.

Her pastor of over thirty-nine years, Eld. Junior Dickerson, will officiate the 11 a.m. Wednesday morning March 19th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial will be by her son and husband in the Garden of Prayer at the Smith County Memorial Gardens.

    The Mofield family will receive friends on Tuesday March 18th from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday after 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services at Sanderson in Carthage.

    She was born Maude Ella Christian in the Sullivans Bend Community and was one of seven children, four sons and three daughters of the late Melvin Ottis Christian who died November 27, 1990 at the age of 93 and Vinnie Ethel Overstreet Christian who died February 21, 1975 at the age of 73.

    Siblings preceding her in death were her two sisters, Carrie Nell Christian Climer who died June 19, 2014 at the age of 94, Margaret Dellia Christian Speck who died April 16, 2024 at the age of 86 and four brothers, Oliver Smith “Shorty” Christian who died July 17, 2018 at the age of 88, Leonard Wilson Christian who died October 3, 1966 at the age of 44, James Wade Christian who died January 8, 1966 at the age of 41 and Jessie Julious Christian who died May 2, 2000 at the age of 73.

    In Rossville, Georgia on December 16,1953, she was united in marriage to Rawls Creek Community native Charlie Ray Mofield. He preceded her in death at the age of 71 on November 15, 2006, one month short of fifty-three years of marriage.

    A son, Troy Hayes Mofield preceded Mrs. Mofield in death on January 24, 2024 at the age of 57.

    Mrs. Mofield was saved at the age of 23 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church in the Rock City Community by then church pastor, Eld. Walter Deweese and where she remained a faithful and dedicated member in her attendance as long as her health permitted.

    Diligent in her work ethic, she was employed at the Robertshaw Corporation in Carthage for thirty-three years before her retirement on December 31, 1998.

    Mrs. Mofield is survived by her three children, Judy Smith and husband Greg of Lebanon, Tommy Mofield and wife Teresa Bowman Mofield, Tracy Mofield and wife Marcie, daughter-in-law, Alta Lee Mofield all of the Hogans Creek Community; eleven grandchildren, Tabitha Houchin & husband Brian, Rebecca Robinson and husband Chad, Jennifer Sawyer and husband Matt, Kevin and Nick Mofield, “T. J.” Tracy Mofield Jr., Tia Mofield Medley, Chelsea Mofield, Lacee Martin and husband Josh, Adam Lee and wife Shipherah and Kendall Lee; nineteen great-grandchildren.

    The Mofield family has requested memorials to the Plunketts Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
