Frustrated by weeks of unanswered requests to meet in person with their congressman, residents of Darrell Issa‘s district are taking matters into their own hands.
Activists have organized an “Empty Chair Town Hall,” scheduled for Sunday, March 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, inviting Issa to attend and fill the vacant seat.
Allison Gill, host of the “Mueller, She Wrote” podcast, will host the gathering for constituents to voice concerns about potential cuts to vital services such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, according to East County Magazine.
The event is part of a national effort organized by Indivisible during the congressional recess from March 13-23.
Community members can submit written questions with their name on top and selected participants will read them aloud for a panel response.
Issa, who represents the 48th District in East County, hasn’t held a large in-person meeting in his district since taking office in 2021. His last notable town halls were in 2017 — including a “sometimes rowdy” one in his previous North County district.
