Where was Adolescence on Netflix filmed? ...Middle East

Adolescence on Netflix may have hooked viewers in with its gripping plot and starry cast, but the new show is also notable for its unique filming technique.

The series, which follows a 13-year-old boy who’s accused of stabbing a young girl to death, is filmed in a one-shot technique, with each episode shot entirely in one-take.

It’s a method that star/co-creator Stephen Graham and director Philip Barantini used in their previous film Boiling Point.

“I think what the one-shot does is makes you sit up and you can’t take your eyes off it, because if you do blink for a second you miss something. It draws the audience in,” Baranti recently told Radio Times Magazine.

“It’s like going to a play. If you go to a play, you can’t be on your phone, yeah? And so you’ve got to pay attention to everything.”

Most of the action in Adolescence was set-based, but some of the shoot did take place on location.

Where was Adolescence filmed?

Production Park, South Kirby, Yorkshire

Adolescence was filmed in South Kirkby, West Yorkshire.

The cast and crew were based at Production Park, a studio facility near Wakefield, for six months last summer, where most of the filming took place.

“The series posed a major challenge for us with the one-shot element, so we needed a studio space that could match our technical needs, but also provide a home for the crew and actors during the whole process,” said Mark Herbert, joint CEO of WARP Films.

“It was a great space to build our sets.”

One of the studios housed an “extensive set build”, part of which was a police station.

There were “two internal builds” in total, plus an “extension outside”.

Some on location filming also took place, one being the Miller house, which is located just a few minutes from the studio.

Pontefract, West Yorkshire

Various scenes were also shot in Pontefract in the West Yorkshire city of Wakefield.

Speaking about how the casting of Owen Cooper as Jamie influenced where the series was shot, director Philip Barantini previously told Netflix: “We knew it was going to be set somewhere in the North of England, and we also knew it would be from somewhere around wherever our Jamie was from — in this case near Warrington — because it would have been unfair to make him do an accent.”

Where was the school in Adolescence filmed?

The school scenes were reportedly shot in a school in Sheffield.
