Severance 8, Thompson Valley 3, in Loveland: Severance opened its league schedule with its first win of the season, improving to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in Class 4A/3A Longs Peak play. The Silver Knights started fast, going up 8-0 in the first inning. They kept Thompson Valley at arm’s length the rest of the day, despite ultimately being out-hit 7-4. Finn Wischmeier led Severance, hitting 1 for 2 with two RBI and a run.
Weld Central 3, Bennett 1, in Keenesburg: Weld Central stayed sharp in this quality nonleague win. The Rebels out-hit Bennett 5-4, and neither team committed an error. Junior Lucas Johann hit 1 for 3 and drove in two of Weld Central’s three runs. Sophomore Luke Witzel was lights out on the mound for the Rebels, going the distance and allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out 14 and walking one. Weld Central improved to 2-2 overall.
Timnath 19, Greeley Central 1, 4 inn., in Greeley: Greeley Central lost by double digits against Timnath for the second time in two days, falling to 0-3 overall, 0-3 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. The two teams were tied at 1 through one inning before the Cubs scored the final 18 runs, including seven in the top of the second. Timnath out-hit the Wildcats 13-3 and had no errors, compared to six for Central. Sophomore Lupe Lome-Arteaga had the Wildcats’ only RBI.
Girls golf
Northridge wins home match, in Greeley: Northridge played host to six other teams during a Longs Peak League match at Boomerang Links, and the Grizzlies topped the team leaderboard with 239 strokes. Timnath was second at 262. Severance was third (267), and Roosevelt placed fifth (312).
All four of the Grizzlies’ golfers placed in the top 5. Senior Emmarie Miles led the way, shooting a 5-over-par 77 to place second. Junior Jade Hepler was third, shooting a 79. Juniors Grace Gerbers and Madison Nation each shot an 83 to tie for fourth.
Senior Sophie Morgan led Severance, shooting an 83, also tying for fourth. She was complemented on the Silver Knights’ team by sophomore Jaycee Runner (8th, 91), senior Katelyn Johnson (12th, 93) and senior Reagan Mendoza (20th, 109).
Roosevelt fielded a team of senior Bailey Haines (13th, 95), junior Braylynn Ramirez (19th 107), senior Grace Sterkel (22nd, 110) and junior Shaylee Ramirez (24th, 115).
Boys lacrosse
Resurrection Christian 26, St. Mary’s 1, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian was electric in this lopsided nonleague win. The Cougars immediately took firm control, leading 6-0 after one quarter and 18-0 after two. Sophomores Jacob Adams and Lleyton Henry each had five goals and an assist. Senior Parker Jordan and sophomore Jacob Arnold had four goals apiece. Resurrection Christian improved to 3-0 overall.
Girls soccer
Northridge 1, Greeley West 0, in Greeley: Northridge got the better of its crosstown rival with the game’s sole goal in the second half. The Grizzlies improved to 2-0 overall, while Greeley West fell to 1-2-1.
Frontier Academy 4, Severance 2, in Severance: Frontier Academy put forth a consistent attack, outscoring Severance 2-1 in each half. Junior Emily Gesick led the way, recording three goals and an assist. The Wolverines improved to 2-2 overall. The Silver Knights fell to 2-1-1.

Fort Lupton 10, Sheridan 0, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton opened its league slate with a lopsided first win of the season. The Bluedevils improved to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in 3A/2A Frontier League play.
Valley 3, Wellington 2, in Gilcrest: Valley came up clutch to snag its first win of the season. The Vikings gained the early edge, leading 2-0 after the first half. Valley improved to 1-3 overall.
Berthoud 3, Weld Central 0, in Berthoud: Weld Central couldn’t get its offense started in this nonleague loss. Berthoud scored all there of the game’s goals in the first half. The Rebels fell to 2-2 overall.
Girls tennis
Greeley West 7, Greeley Central 0, at GWHS: Greeley West remained in firm control against its crosstown rival, winning all seven matches, including six via sweeps. Spartans senior Piper Clancy defeated fellow senior Sarah Rasmussen 6-0, 6-0. West junior Danae Rowe topped senior Serenity Steitz 6-3, 6-0. The Spartans improved to 3-1 overall with this nonleague win. Greeley Central fell to 0-2.
Severance 4, Mountain View 2, in Severance: Severance won just one of three singles matches but prevailed in all three of the contested doubles matches. Silver Knights freshman Josephine Carter picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Severance improved to 2-1 on the season, 2-0 in 4A Region 4 duals.
Loveland 7, Northridge 0, in Loveland: Northridge was unable to win a match in this nonleague dual. Six of the seven matches ended in sweeps. The Grizzlies fell to 0-2 on the young season.
Track and field
Roosevelt hosts qualifier, in Johnstown: Roosevelt hosted 13 other teams during a NoCo Qualifier meet. The Rough Riders won the girls meet, scoring 97.5 points to top runner-up Timnath’s 82 points. Roosevelt was second (102.5) in the boys standings behind Thompson Valley. Resurrection Christian’s girls placed seventh (52), while its boys were ninth (31). University’s boys placed eighth (35), and its girls were 10th (25). Weld Central was 12th (23) in the girls standings and 14th (3) in the boys standings.
Resurrection Christian sophomore Taylor Gooch was first in the girls 300 hurdles (46.26). The Cougars team of senior Reese Peterson, Gooch, senior Addison Garcia and senior Addison Barker were first in the girls 400 relay (50.72).
Roosevelt’s quartet of freshman Nora Al Otaibi, senior Rachel Wheeler, junior Maelynn Johnson and freshman Sydney Ludington won the girls 3,200 relay with a time of 10:25.80. The Rough Riders team of junior Colten Schlagel, senior Tony Siedenburg, sophomore Owen Hays and senior Gabe Santos placed first in the boys 1,600 relay (3:27.94).
Roosevelt’s standout senior Taegan Olson dominated girls pole vault, placing first with a height of 12 feet. She was a foot better than the runner-up, Barker from Resurrection Christian.
University’s star senior Nicholas Rothe won the boys pole vault in similar fashion. He recorded a height of 15′ 7″, easily besting the runner-up, Thompson Valley junior Zack Bakker (14′).
Rough Riders junior Tayber Konrad won the boys shot put with a mark of 51′ 2″. Rough Riders senior Isaiah Sprague won the mixed 100 (13.63) and the mixed 200 (27.88).
Boys volleyball
Severance 3, Fort Lupton 0, in Fort Lupton: Severance controlled all three sets of this conference match, winning 25-16, 25-14, 25-10. The Silver Knights improved to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in 4A Northern Conference play. Fort Lupton fell to 1-5, 1-1.
