The High Plains Library District will work with Employment Services of Weld County to deliver workforce resources, training and expertise to rural areas around the county thanks to a nearly $831,000 grant from The Weld Trust, the district announced Monday.
High Plains libraries have been instrumental in workforce development with job training and certification courses available to patrons at no cost, according to a library district news release. The $830,803 grant to the High Plains Library District Friends & Foundation — the largest it has received to date — will help the district take that work on the road.
“Workforce development is a priority and a key funding Initiative of The Weld Trust,” Weld Trust CEO Jeff Carlson said in the release. “Being able to access resources to gain or enhance one’s employment is so important. We are delighted at the opportunity to address the needs of rural portions of our county with this critical service.
The work between the employment services and High Plains libraries will address the needs of unemployed and underserved who have barriers to workforce development, according to the release. All of the resources provided at employment service office locations in Greeley and Fort Lupton will be available on the mobile unit.
“As Weld County’s population continues to grow there is an increased demand for human and library services in our community,” High Plains Library District Friends & Foundation director Niamh Mercer said in the release. “With the generous support of The Weld Trust, we will be meeting our population where they are, and we can improve and create essential workforce skills and provide access to existing work opportunities that are currently out of reach for our workforce in isolated communities.”
