For the first time in months, Fantasy Premier League managers will have to captain someone other than the record-breaking Mo Salah.
Liverpool’s talisman surpassed his own FPL points record across a whole season during the win over Southampton with 15 points taking him to 306 in total with 10 gameweeks still to go.
However, he will be unavailable for selection this weekend due to Liverpool’s participation in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, who were due to play the finalists in the league, now have a rare weekend off, meaning only eight FPL fixtures will be played.
With prized assets like Salah, Alexander Isak, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Daniel Munoz, among others, out of action, it could be a good time to use the Free Hit chip.
It allows managers to completely change their squads for one gameweek only before reverting back to how it was before. Gameweek 34 is another opportunity to activate the chip when even fewer fixtures will be played.
Our team is packed full of penalty specialists with all seven attackers (four midfielders and three forwards) regular takers for their clubs.
This week’s deadline is at 1.30pm on Saturday, 15 March:
Gameweek 29 team
Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest) – £5.1m Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal) – £6.3m Josko Gvardiol (Man City) – £5.9m Noussair Mazraoui (Man Utd) – £4.3m Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth) – £6.1m Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd) – £8.3m Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) – £7.5m Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) – £8.1m Erling Haaland (Man City) – £14.7m Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) – £7.3m Raul Jimenez (Fulham) – £5.5mMatz Sels (Nottingham Forest)
After conceding four goals at St James’ Park in Gameweek 26, Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flying Nottingham Forest have tightened up by recording back-to-back shutouts against Arsenal and Manchester City.
Matz Sels’ chances of winning the Premier League’s golden glove have been boosted as a result, with the Belgian currently two clean sheets ahead of Arsenal’s David Raya in second place.
Top-four chasing Forest face a brittle Ipswich side that has struggled for goals at Portman Road next. The Tractor Boys have scored just 10 in 14 games, failing to find the net on six occasions.

Defenders
Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)
Arsenal have a tricky fixture on paper, but how much has Chelsea’s return to winning form been down to playing two wretched teams in Southampton and Leicester?
The Blues hardly blew the Foxes away at the weekend – not helped by Cole Palmer’s first-ever penalty miss – but the Gunners should be confident of keeping a clean sheet against a fellow strikerless team.
Arsenal have conceded the fewest goals (24) in the league and are second for clean sheets (10) behind Forest and Liverpool, hence Gabriel’s inclusion.

Noussair Mazraoui (Man Utd)

Rayan Ait-Nouri and Milos Kerkez were both close to making this team, but Noussair Mazraoui has pipped them to it.
The Moroccan’s inclusion is based on two factors: his impressive performance against Arsenal in Gameweek 28 and his upcoming fixture against Leicester.
Mazraoui was one of United’s most advanced players against the Gunners, as reflected by an overall expected goal involvement of 0.57, which was higher than any other player in Ruben Amorim’s team.
Meanwhile, the Foxes have managed just two goals in their last seven matches.
Price: £4.3m Points: 66 Gameweek 29 fixture: Leicester (a)
Josko Gvardiol (Man City)
Manchester City have been unusually lacklustre in defence, keeping just seven clean sheets across the campaign.
Josko Gvardiol’s popularity in FPL has declined as a result, with the Croatian only the seventh most highly-owned defender in the game.
Now could be a good time to invest in him, though, as City have a good run of fixtures from now until the end of the season.
The left-back has scored more goals (five) and taken more shots in the box (28) than any other defender.
Price: £5.9m Points: 105 Gameweek 29 fixture: Brighton (h)
Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth)
Justin Kluivert was sensational during Bournemouth’s draw with Spurs and, on another day, would have helped himself to a monster FPL haul.
The Dutchman registered an assist and five points but could have easily netted a third hat-trick of the season after having a goal disallowed, hitting the post and seeing a one-on-one saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
Kluivert’s capacity to deliver big scores (he has produced five double-digit returns already) and penalty-taking prowess make him a standout pick in this reduced gameweek.

Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd)
Fernandes has been in fine form of late (Photo: Getty)Bruno Fernandes continued his fine run of FPL form during Manchester United’s draw against Arsenal by delivering his fourth attacking return in his last three matches.
The Portuguese playmaker has produced two goals and two assists since Gameweek 26 ahead of Sunday’s reunion with former United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy at the King Power.
Leicester are in freefall having lost 12 of their last 13 league games and have failed to keep a single clean sheet in any of Van Nistelrooy’s 15 matches in charge.
Price: £8.3m Points: 135 Gameweek 29 fixture: Leicester (a)
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
Bryan Mbeumo has stepped up his output away from home lately ahead of Brentford’s trip to the south coast.
The Cameroonian has scored five goals and provided two assists in his last six matches, totalling 55 points overall. That is over double what his teammate Yoane Wissa has managed (27) in that period.
Excellent as Bournemouth have been this season, they will be wary of the threat posed by Thomas Frank’s side given they have won each of their last four away fixtures.
Price: £8.1m Points: 173 Gameweek 29 fixture: Bournemouth (a)
Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)
The David Moyes derby should make for an interesting spectacle with Everton in good form under their new/old manager and West Ham still searching for some consistency Graham Potter.
While Kluivert, Fernandes and Mbeumo are no-brainer picks in midfield, the fourth slot is trickier to fill. Morgan Gibbs-White, Phil Foden and even Palmer (if you fancy him to arrest his slump) are interesting picks.
However, Jarrod Bowen just about gets the nod, due to playing as a striker and being on penalties for the Hammers. Bowen has delivered two goals and an assist in five appearances under his new boss.

Erling Haaland (Man City)

It has been some time since Erling Haaland has featured in the thoughts of FPL managers but with Salah missing that will change this weekend.
The Norwegian drew a blank during City’s defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend – and only registered an xG of 0.15 – but his overall form has been pretty steady.
Since Gameweek 19, Haaland has scored seven goals and registered two assists in nine appearances, only failing to provide an attacking return twice in that period.
Price: £14.7m Points: 164 Gameweek 29 fixture: Brighton (h)
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)
Chris Wood has gone three games without scoring but they were tricky fixtures against Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester City.
The New Zealand striker has an easier assignment this weekend against an Ipswich side that ranks third-bottom in the Premier League for goals conceded (58 in total).
With Salah and Isak contesting the Carabao Cup final, Wood is the division’s second-highest goalscorer (with 18 goals) in Gameweek 29 action, only behind Haaland (20).
Price: £7.3m Points: 172 Gameweek 29 fixture: Ipswich (a)
Raul Jimenez (Fulham)
Beto, Yoane Wissa and Evanilson are all strong, in-form assets, but Raul Jimenez gets the nod following his exceptionally well-taken goal against Brighton last time out.
That was the Mexican’s 13th attacking return (10 goals, three assists) in only 22 appearances and a fixture against an out-of-form Spurs gives him a great opportunity to improve that record.
Price: £5.5m Points: 116 Gameweek 29 fixture: Tottenham (h)
