“You guys, for the past almost three years, I have been living in my car,” Robinson confessed before screaming and sighing with relief. “I said it. Oh my gosh, it’s out.”

In the video, the singer said she had been living with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020, before moving out and living in her car for a month. Ultimately, she relocated to Los Angeles.

Although Robinson's former manager initially offered for her to stay with him, he ended up paying for her to stay in a hotel, where she remained for eight months. She looked for apartments but claimed that the manager found an excuse to turn down her suggestions—despite the apartments being cheaper than the hotel.

“Sometimes, I think you guys, people want to trap you and keep you in a situation where you’re vulnerable and depending on them,” she claimed. "And I wasn't the one. So I got out of there.”

Ultimately, Robinson looked into car life and made the leap in Malibu, Calif.

“I felt free,” she told viewers. “I felt like I was on a camping trip. It just felt like it was the right thing to do.”

Robinson stressed that she wasn't looking for pity by sharing that she has been living in her car.

“It’s not like, 'Oh my God, poor Dawn. She's living in her car. It's terrible. Oh, woe is me,'" she said. “Like I said, I’m learning about who I am. I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman."

In the '90s, Robinson rose to fame as a founding member of En Vogue with Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones and Terry Ellis. The group earned seven Grammy nominations and was known for songs like "Hold On," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," "Giving Him Something He Can Feel," "Free Your Mind" and more.

In 1997, Robinson left En Vogue and signed with Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath Records. She reunited with the group briefly in 2005 and 2009. Additionally, she appeared in Season 1 of R&B Divas: Los Angeles.
