A man who allegedly abducted a ride-share driver in Spring Valley over the weekend while claiming to have a concealed gun was behind bars Monday and facing a slate of criminal charges.
The Lyft worker had just picked up Shane Robert Capezio, 23, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday when he allegedly told her he was carrying a firearm and ordered her to take him to a marijuana dispensary in the 3500 block of Harris Street in Lemon Grove, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived at the cannabis shop a short time later in response to a 911 text message from the driver, they found her and Capezio inside her parked car, engaged in a physical struggle, Sgt. Kenneth Seel said. The patrol personnel intervened, broke up the scuffle and took the suspect into custody.
The victim suffered no significant injuries, the sergeant said.
Capezio, who turned out to be unarmed, was arrested on various charges, including kidnapping, false imprisonment and trying to prevent a person from reporting a crime. He was being held at San Diego Central Jail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
