A car fatally struck a pedestrian over the weekend on a roadway near Leucadia State Beach, authorities reported Monday.
The sedan hit the 60-year-old man in the 100 block of Jupiter Street in Encinitas at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The involved motorist, an 84-year-old man, suffered no injuries in the accident, sheriff’s Sgt. Jeremy Collis said.
“The cause of the crash is currently still under investigation by North Coastal Station Traffic Investigators and the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team,” the sheriff’s department said in a release.
“It is unknown if the use of alcohol or drugs is a factor in this ongoing investigation.”
It remained unclear Monday who was at fault in the crash.
