LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The president and vice-president of a local non-profit have been charged after allegedly using the charity's bank card to gamble more than $300,000 in online sports bets, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Board members for the non-profit, L-Town Charities, filed a report with the sheriff's office after irregularities were found on charity bank records. Officials say board members received complaints from volunteers and vendors about non-payments for fundraising events which questioned the record keeping.
According to detectives, the president and vice-president of the non-profit are the two individuals with purchase and financial control.

Other purchases were allegedly made where vehicle maintenance was performed multiple times dating back to Jan. 2024 on the vice president's vehicle.
Kevin Joe Turner, 49, was booked under a $10,000 bond for one count of felony embezzlement (more than $100,000) and Melanie Dambrosio Turner, 50, was booked under a $5,000 bond for one count of felony embezzlement (less than $100,000). Officials say the two suspects are not related.
“At this point in the investigation, it does not appear that any other board members or anyone else associated with the charity was involved in the misuse of the finances other than the two people that have been charged”, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jon Propst said.
