The family said they filed a police report that same day and have not had any follow-up since with the San Jose Police Department.
KRON4 reached out to San Jose PD but did not get a response before this report was published.
The family said they also learned from police that nearby houses in the area of San Jose near Cupertino and De Anza college were burglarized as well.
Jake says for them it’s a learning lesson, noting that while the front and other doors were closed — the gate was left unlocked.
“They came in through the side gate," said Jake. "We usually left it unlocked because it was a safe neighborhood. Turns out that was a mistake."
The couple is urging everyone to keep their doors locked.
