(KRON) -- The San Mateo Police Department said a 19-year-old suspect was arrested with the help of a drone and pepper spray launcher after he stole alcohol from a Walgreens store and hid under a highway overpass Friday afternoon.

The suspect was quickly located by officers who were already patrolling the area. Police said the suspect continued to evade officers, riding his bike eastbound toward Highway 101.
San Mateo police said an officer tried to block the suspect but was injured when the suspect refused to stop his bike. Police said the suspect then hopped off his bike and ran under the 3rd Avenue overpass that crosses over Highway 101. The suspect entered the creek that runs under the highway but was later found hiding on an embankment.

After an hour of negotiations, officers used a 'non-lethal launcher to deploy pepper spray near Perez, which forced him to exit.
Perez was taken to San Mateo County Jail where he faces several charges including, felony resisting a police officer, obstructing or resisting a police officer, and shoplifting.
Police did not provide an update on the condition of the injured officer.
