Ukiah Unified School District is excited to announce that the Ukiah High School (UHS) Science Olympiad team has earned a spot at the State Tournament after an outstanding performance at the Sacramento NorCal Regional Tournament. Competing against 28 teams, UHS placed 4th overall, securing their second consecutive trip to the California Science Olympiad State Finals in April.
This year’s team set a new program record, earning five first-place medals – a testament to their dedication, teamwork and passion for science. Science Olympiad is a rigorous 23-event, 15-person team competition that challenges students in fields such as engineering, physics, biology, chemistry and earth science.
“Our students have worked incredibly hard, and we’re so proud of their achievements,” said Science Olympiad sponsor, Mr. Lane. “Advancing to State for the second year in a row is a huge accomplishment, and I can’t wait to see how they perform at the next level.”
The UHS Science Olympiad team members are:
Amaya Upchurch, Adam Lane, Jackson Brown, Elijah Kirkley, Dean Deng, Xavier Fierro, Austin Ross, Lluvitza Gutierrez.
Chiara Barber, Corinne Goldenghost, Adelaide Ross, Gabriella Damian, Yuan Zhou, Shanty Doherty, Gwendolyn Johnson, Christabel Zhao.
The State Science Olympiad Tournament will take place at CSU East Bay in April. UHS students will compete against the best teams in California for a chance to qualify for Nationals.
