Free Fire Resistive Landscaping Workshop offered in Ukiah

As wildfire risks continue to grow, homeowners can take proactive steps to safeguard their properties. The upcoming Fire Resistive Landscaping Workshop will provide expert insights on creating fire-smart landscapes while maintaining a beautiful, thriving yard.

The workshop will take place on March 6 at 6 p.m. at the Ukiah City Hall Chambers and will feature two speakers:

    • Jim Xerogeanes, retired director of the Mendocino College Agriculture Department for 25 years, will share his expertise on smart landscaping, plant spacing, and pruning techniques to enhance both fire-resilience and aesthetics.

    • Chief Doug Hutchinson of the Ukiah Valley Fire Department will kick off the event with an introduction on Defensible Space and Zone 0, breaking down essential fire protection strategies for homeowners.
