High school sports results (Monday-Tuesday): Local teams kick off spring campaigns

MONDAY

Boys volleyball

Centaurus 3, Greeley Central 0, in Lafayette: Greeley Central was unable to secure a set, as the Wildcats fell to 1-1 on the young season. Centaurus claimed the trio of sets 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.

Riverdale Ridge 3, Severance 1, in Severance: Severance dropped a highly competitive match in its season opener, falling 25-23, 25-27, 26-24, 25-23.

    TUESDAY

    Girls soccer

    Roosevelt 2, Weld Central 1, in Johnstown: Roosevelt secured a nonleague nail-biter in both teams’ season opener. All three of the game’s goals came in the second half.

    Greeley West 4, Fort Morgan 1, in Fort Morgan: Greeley West was dominant in its first game of the season, breaking a 1-1 halftime tie with three unanswered goals in the second half.

    Boys swimming and diving

    Greeley West starts strong, in Fort Collins: Greeley West kicked off its season in style, placing second out of five teams in a five-team meet hosted by Poudre in the Edora Pool Ice Center. Fort Collins finished first. Valley was fifth. The Spartans recorded first-place finishes in an impressive eight out of 12 events. Senior Timothy Kenigsberg was first in the 50 freestyle (22.01) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.79). Ian Spooner won the 100 butterfly (54.52) and 200 freestyle (1:47.28). Christopher Greenberg won the 200 individual medley (2:06.85), while sophomore Sam Sasaki won the 500 freestyle (5:10.97). West also won two out of three relay events.
