A motorist died Tuesday after a pickup truck collided with a Sprinter train in an Escondido intersection.
Authorities received reports of the crash, at Mission Road and Enterprise Street, shortly before 1:10 p.m., according to OnScene.TV.
Escondido firefighters had to extricate the driver from the truck. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no immediate reports of injuries among passengers or North County Transit District personnel aboard the Sprinter, a commuter train that runs between Escondido and Oceanside.
The collision damaged a bar at the train crossing bar. Authorities said it appears the vehicle drove past the barrier before the collision.
