MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A local burn ban will be in effect in Morganton due to the dangerous conditions, the public safety department announced on Monday.
Officials say the burn fan will be effective starting at 5 p.m. on March 3. The burn ban applies to all outside burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling, including grills, fire pits, and yard debris.
Over the weekend, crews made progress containing one of two Carolina Forest area wildfires that burned about 2,000 acres.
Officials say violators of the burn ban will be subject to a $100 citation from the City of Morganton for the first offense, which doubles for each subsequent offense.
