High school sports results (Thursday): Valley girls basketball beats Wray in Patriot League

Girls basketball

Valley 37, Wray 30, in Gilcrest: Senior Alivia Lawing scored 16 points, and classmate Nevaeh Jimenez added 11 points in the Vikings’ Patriot League win. Jimenez was also credited with 20 rebounds. Kendyll Mayhugh grabbed nine rebounds and Brianna Orona pulled down eight. Valley is 5-5 in 4A Patriot League and 14-9 overall. Wray finished the year 3-7 in 3A Patriot League and 5-17 overall.

Platte Valley 47, Sterling 31, in Kersey: Platte Valley outscored Sterling 18-10 in the third quarter to break open a Patriot League Tournament win. The victory was the fourth in a row for Platte Valley, 4-6 in the 3A Patriot League and 15-6 overall.

    Fort Morgan 41, Weld Central 38, in Fort Morgan: The host Mustangs squeaked by Weld Central, outscoring the Rebels 14-10 in the fourth quarter of a 4A Patriot League win.

    Lyons 47, Union Colony Prep 32, in Lyons: Leora Hagan scored 14 points for the host Lyons, and Gretta Wynja added 12 in a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League tournament win over Union Colony. The win was the fourth in a row for Lyons, 8-4 league and 15-6 overall. The Lions meet SkyView Academy in a neutral site tournament game on Saturday morning.

    Gilpin County 26, Dayspring Christian Academy 25, in Black Hawk: The host Eagles won for the ninth time in 10 games dating to late January with a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League game win over Dayspring (8-4, 10-12). Gilpin is in second place in the league standings with a 11-1 record. The Eagles are 17-5 overall.

    Boys basketball

    Union Colony Prep 109, Gilpin County 31, in Greeley: The host Timberwolves outscored Gilpin County 68-20 in the first half on the way to a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League tournament win Thursday. Union Colony (4-9 league, 11-11 overall) plays Front Range Christian (4-10, 8-14) in its next tournament game on Saturday afternoon.

    Dayspring Christian Academy 49, Belleview Christian 38, in Westminster: Dayspring outscored Belleview 16-9 in the second quarter to win a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League game. Dayspring (6-8, 9-13) plays Estes Park in another league game on Saturday morning.

    Frontier Academy 81, Valley 60, in Greeley: The host Wolverines scored a season high in a Patriot League win over the Vikings. Frontier is 2-8 in the 3A Patriot League and 10-13 overall. Valley is 4-8 in the 4A Patriot League and 6-17 overall.

    Platte Valley 63, Fort Morgan 35, in Kersey: Senior Talyn Short matched a season high with 31 points in the Broncos’ nonleague win over the Mustangs. Short hit 11 of 18 shots from the field including 6 of 10 on 3-pointers. Short also scored 31 points Jan. 28 in a 58-51 win over Wray.
