Cubs vs Giants — Today’s spring training matchup will not be televised, which means we won’t be able to watch the Cubs go for their seventh straight win, this one against the Giants. And more importantly, we won’t get to see Shota Imanaga make his 2025 Spring debut. Grumble.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Nicky Lopez, SS Michael Busch, DH Justin Turner, 1B Miguel Amaya, C Gage Workman, 3B Vidal Brujan, CF Travis Jankowski, LF Kevin Alcantara, RF Ben Cowles, 2BOn the one hand, I’m obviously disappointed that today’s game won’t be broadcast. But on the other, this is not exactly a lineup I’m dying to see. Right now, my only “must-watch” Spring Training hitters (healthy edition) include Moises Ballesteros, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker, and Kevin Alcantara. Beyond them, I like me some Jonathan Long and James Triantos. And I do like getting eyes on Justin Turner, but he’s very well-established at this point.
So with only one of those players (Alcantara) in today’s group, I’m just not sweating this one being missed. I don’t really know why there are so many fewer ST games televised this year (money), but it is what it is.

Chicago Cubs: Shota Imanaga, LHP
Last week, we learned – officially – that Shota Imanaga will start the Chicago Cubs’ season opener in Japan vs the Dodgers. And if you can believe it, that game is less than three weeks from today … his first official spring training start. So … no. I don’t think he’ll be fully ramped up by then, but I do bet he’ll have some adrenaline pumping as he takes the mound back in his home country and in front of his friends and family. Maybe that’ll be enough to get him through 5.0 innings. For now, let’s just look for a nice, healthy transition from offseason training to live game action.
