THE NFL is once again looking into banning the tush push play.
The Green Bay Packers have submitted a proposal to the league to ban the play.
NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent told reporters on Monday that the proposal to ban the play was submitted.
The tush push is undoubtedly the most controversial play in football, especially after the Philadelphia Eagles just won a Super Bowl after using it frequently.
There was some traction behind potentially voting to ban the play last season, but it never came to be.
The NFL decided there was no reason to vote on banning the play.
The Athletic had previously reported that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wanted the play to be banned in the 2024 season, but the play was still legal last season.
Philadelphia was also still able to run it successfully even after the retirement of future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce.
Packers CEO Mark Murphy is very publicly anti-tush push, recently calling it out during a Q&A.
“I am not a fan of this play,” he said.
“There is no skill involved and it is almost an automatic first down on plays of a yard or less.
“The series of plays with the Commanders jumping offsides in the NFC Championship Game to try to stop the play was ridiculous.
“The referee even threatened to give the Eagles an automatic touchdown if the Commanders did not stop it.
“I would like to see the league prohibit pushing or aiding the runner (QB) on this play.
“There used to be a rule prohibiting this, but it is no longer enforced because I believe it was thought to be too hard for the officials to see.
“The play is bad for the game, and we should go back to prohibiting the push of the runner. This would bring back the traditional QB sneak.
“That worked pretty well for Bart Starr and the Packers in the Ice Bowl.”

NFL fans were quick to clown the Packers for trying to ban the play on social media.
“Rest of the league crying because they can’t stop it, and most of them can’t run it either,” one fan said.
“If you can’t beat it, outlaw it? Packers you should be better than this,” another fan said.
“Packers just salty they can’t pull it off like the eagles,” a third fan said.
