A CANADIAN couple in their 20s has left social media a little jealous and in awe after revealing how they built their dream barndominium from scratch.
Morgan, 26, and her fiancé, Cole, 29, document their home-building journey on TikTok, while sharing four reasons why they skipped the traditional home route altogether.
Under the username @cmbarndominium, the couple’s DIY project has captivated thousands.
Morgan and Cole, who are both passionate about hunting, fishing, and outdoor living, wanted a home that could accommodate their lifestyle in the most practical way possible.
A BARN TO CALL HOME
The journey started in early 2022.
The couple waved goodbye to their old mobile home and began construction on their ‘barndominium.’
The idea was an open-concept, barn-style home that blends rustic charm with modern conveniences.
In a recent video, Morgan broke down their decisions, listing four key reasons why they went this route.
She shared firstly, “It’s more cost-effective than a traditional home.”
Number two, half of the house functions as a workshop. She also noted that they love the airy, open-concept style.
Last of all, Morgan shared that a huge factor was that now, their living room boasts soaring 20-foot ceilings.
“We wanted a big shop attached to the house with easy access to everything,” Morgan explained.
“It made more sense for our lifestyle than a standard home.”
DREAM BARN
The couple’s luxe barndominium, measures 65 feet by 92 feet and took just 11 months to build.
They share the space with their dog, Tupac, a new puppy, and a barn cat.
The couple quickly earned a legion of fans by documenting their journey.
Inside, it’s anything but rustic, boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, a statement fireplace, and sleek modernities.
The couple opted for three bedrooms but left enough space for a potential fourth room down the road.
The primary bathroom is almost spa-like, containing a steam shower, freestanding soaking tub, and dual sinks.
A far cry from the rough-and-tumble outdoor life they love, this home is just as functional as it is aesthetic.
The barndominium features a drive-through shop bay for tools and vehicles, a meat processing room for their hunting hobby, a coffee bar and much more.
When they’re not working on home projects, Morgan runs a gluten-free bakery, while Cole co-owns a contracting business with his dad.
Morgan and Cole’s journey has sparked serious interest online.
The couple even sells blueprints of their home design for $628 on their website, along with free advice on building a barndominium from scratch.
What is a tiny home?
Technically, a tiny home is any house measuring under 400 square feet.
Many tiny homes are built on trailers so they can be towed anywhere, and some are converted from old school buses or vans.
Each state has its own rules about tiny homes, but, generally, they are not subject to the same taxes as regular homes.
However, Alaska, Iowa, Louisiana, North Dakota, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, and West Virginia have made tiny homes illegal as permanent dwellings.
