Next month will be recognized as Youth Arts Month in the city of Greeley, the city council proclaimed on Tuesday.
Youth Arts Month aims to raise awareness of the value of art education and its ability to develop critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. Additionally, art education can be an avenue through which children learn about different cultures all across the world.
“Art education gives powerful benefits to all students,” Mayor John Gates said. “Art education teaches sensitivity to beauty, order and an understanding of our world cultures.”
In recognition of the month, Greeley/Evans Art Educators have partnered with the Greeley Creative District, the city of Greeley, the Downtown Development Authority and area businesses to display more than 200 pieces of student artwork at businesses around the UNC campus and downtown during the month of March.
Greeley residents are encouraged to walk the downtown corridor on Friday, March 7 to support the young artists whose work will be on display. Additionally, the Greeley Art Commission will commemorate the month by distributing custom coloring books with illustrations depicting the city’s public art collection.
“This event is a visual representation of our District 6 students, allowing them to showcase their abilities and talents,” Greeley Central High School art teacher Joni Wilson said.
