National Harbor, Md. – President Trump chided Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday after the two clashed the day before at the White House over transgender athletes in women’s sports.
“You saw Maine yesterday, right? The governor of Maine,” Trump said, eliciting boos from the audience. "She’s fighting to keep men in women’s sports. You ever see what happens to a woman when a woman boxes a man who transitioned to womanhood? You ever see what happens? It’s not pretty.”
“Let her do that fight. Let them all do that fight,” Trump said.
Mills went head-to-head with Trump at the National Governors Association session at the White House on Friday after the president told a group of Republican governors that he would withhold funding from the state over its refusal to comply with an executive order barring transgender athletes from competing in women and girls' sports.
Trump directly asked the governor during the session whether the state would follow the order, to which Mills responded, “I’m complying with state and federal law.”
“We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get federal funding,” Trump said.
“See you in court,” Mills responded.
