Mrs. Shelby Gregory age 86, a homemaker of the Young Branch Community was called home to be with her Lord at 3:18 a.m. Thursday morning February 20, 2025 with her family at her bedside at the Knollwood Manor Health Care in Lafayette, where she was admitted on Tuesday. She was pronounced deceased at 5:32 a.m. by Gentiva Hospice of Lebanon.
Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home will be conducted on Sunday afternoon February 23rd at 1p.m. with Eld. Shawn Shepherd and Eld. Kevin Graham officiating. Burial will follow beside her husband Glenn in the Dias section at the Dixon Springs Cemetery with her brother-in-law, Eld. Larry Gregory officiating.
The Gregory family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Sunday after 10 a.m.
She was born Shelby Jean Moss in the Cato Community of Trousdale County on September 5, 1938 and was one of three daughter of the late Sam Clyde “Buster” Moss who died December 13, 1981 at the age of 73 and Gracie E. Gregory Moss who died September 24, 1990 at the age of 77.
In Rossville, Georgia on December 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Shoulders Hollow native, Glenn Edison Gregory who preceded her at the age of 87 on January 5, 2023 following just over sixty-eight years of marriage. The wedding vows were solemnized by Justice of the Peace, Herman Bowman.
A daughter, Glenda Jean Gregory Brashier, died at the age of 65 on January 14, 2022 and a sister-in-law, Laura Nell Gregory Reasonover preceded her in death on April 29, 2023 at the age of 72.
Mrs. Gregory was saved at the age of 13 under the pastorate of the late eld. Calvin Gregory and was baptized the next day into the full fellowship of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member.
She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was the kind of cook that everyone enjoyed sitting at her table for delicious meals.
Before her retirement in 1988 to take care of her grandchildren, she was a cook at the former Cox-Davis Elementary School in the Riddleton Community and concluded her employment at the Carthage Elementary School with total service of seventeen years.
Surviving are five children, two daughter, Kathy Gregory Webb and husband David of the Young Branch Community, Debbie Gregory Cassity and husband David of the Defeated Creek Community; three sons, Sam Gregory and wife Tammy of Hartsville, Dan Gregory and companion Kim Coggins of Lafayette, David Gregory and wife Frankie also of Hartsville; two sisters, Betty Moss Gregory and husband Eldon of the Young Branch Community; Linda Moss White and husband Charlie of Hartsville; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Joseph Brashier of South Bend, Indiana.
The Gregory family has requested memorials to the Maces hill Missionary Baptist Church.
