(KRON) -- An Antioch mother of four was arrested on Thursday after police officers found her young children alone at home without any adults present, police said. The mother, Shante Alberty, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse, according to the Antioch Police Department.
The family lives on Spruce Way. Around 5 p.m. Thursday, a passerby spotted a 2-year-old child who was alone outside the home and they called authorities.
When police officers arrived at the residence the front door was unlocked. "Officers knocked and announced themselves, however nobody responded," the Antioch Police Department wrote.
To ensure that the 2-year-old child was safe, officers entered the unlocked home. Inside, they found three more young children, and no adults. Two of Alberty's children were 2-years-old, another was 5, and the fourth was 8-years-old.
"The children appeared to require medical attention, and CONFIRE, along with paramedics, was requested to the scene. All four children were transported to nearby hospitals for further evaluation," APD wrote.
