Man arrested on suspicion of robbing San Leandro convenience store at gunpoint

SAN LEANDRO – A 51-year-old Oakland man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a San Leandro convenience store at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called to Quik Stop at 1001 MacArthur Boulevard around 2:15 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery, the San Leandro Police Department said in a news release.

    An investigation revealed the suspect brandished a handgun at the store clerk and demanded money, police said. The clerk complied and handed over cash from the till.

    Using public safety cameras, detectives determined the suspect vehicle was traveling through Oakland, police said, adding that the vehicle had been reported as stolen.

    Detectives later found the suspect in the vehicle near Foothill Boulevard and 23rd Avenue. With help from the Oakland Police Department’s air unit, detectives took him into custody without incident. Police said a handgun and cash were recovered at the scene.

    The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
