For the second time in recent NASCAR history, the sport has a two-time back-to-back Daytona 500 champion. This time, it was William Byron’s moment.
The No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driver took the checkered flag in the 2025 Daytona 500 on Sunday, following some chaotic late laps and multiple big wrecks, including one where a driver ended up airborne and upside down. It’s Byron’s second straight Daytona 500 victory after winning last year as well.

Before Sunday, the last back-to-back Daytona 500 winner was Denny Hamlin, who won in 2019 and 2020 but finished 24th after wrecking while fighting for the lead on the last lap of the 200-lap race at Daytona International Speedway’s 2.5-mile track.

“But just really proud of our team. I can’t stress that enough. I’m just super thankful for this group and everything that they do in the off-season to get prepared. We plan on trying to win a lot of races this year, so we’re not going to stop here.”
