Maximilian Guenther snatched a dramatic victory in Friday’s Jeddah E-Prix in Saudi Arabia, his first with DS Penske.
The German driver started strong, securing pole position, but the race was a rollercoaster with Formula E's innovative PIT BOOST energy pit stops adding a new strategic dimension.
After leading the early proceedings, Guenther lost ground during the first round of pit stops, with Nissan’s Oliver Rowland emerging in the lead.
The Briton, along with Taylor Barnard and Nyck de Vries, utilized their 10% PIT BOOST energy early, while Guenther opted for a later ATTACK MODE and energy boost.
He subsequently charged back, overtaking Barnard and closing the gap to Rowland.
A thrilling four-car battle ensued in the final laps, with Rowland looking set to win. But Guenther made a daring last-turn maneuver, overtaking his rival and securing the win.
Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein's race was ruined by an early collision and puncture.
Guenther's victory was his first since Tokyo last season and the first time a polesitter has won since the start of Season 10.
Rowland now leads the Drivers' Championship with 43 points, while Porsche leads the Teams' standings. The excitement continues with Round 4 in Jeddah on Saturday.
