February 14, 2025 (KHARTOUM BAHRI) – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have redeployed and reinforced their positions in various areas of East Nile in what appears to be an effort to bolster defences against attacks by the Sudanese army and the Sudan Shield forces, witnesses told Sudan Tribune on Friday. The RSF had withdrawn most of its deployments in the area in recent months following the loss of several regions in central Sudan and the intensification of fighting in the desert and al-Fashir axes in North Darfur. Last August, the RSF’s military police carried out extensive campaigns against its fighters, targeting those deployed in cafes and markets. The police used large trucks to transport fighters to combat zones, according to Sudan Tribune’s observations. One witness said that the new deployments set up by the RSF in East Nile included new fighters. “These are completely new faces” who were not among the old forces in the area, the witness added. Another witness told Sudan Tribune of kidnappings by RSF elements and demands for ransom in exchange for their release.
